Owing to the wet outfield and continuous rainfall, the second encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy, between Australia and New Zealand, was called off at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday.
Both the teams took one point each post the Aussie batting line-up struggled to face the New Zealand pace attack in the first nine overs. Australia were 53 for 3 in nine overs, when the rain interrupted and the umpires called off the game.
However, it was a morale booster for the Black Caps, whereas, the exact opposite for the Australian team. The former were in a commanding position, when the shower denied their victory push.
Earlier, opting to bat first, the Kiwi scored 291 in 45 overs before rain came in and Australia were given a target of 235 runs to chase down in 33 overs.
Skipper Kane Williamson (100 off 97 balls) scored a blistering century to help his side post a formidable target.
His innings was studded with 8 fours and 3 sixes.
On Saturday, South Africa will take on Sri Lanka in the first Group B match of the 50-over season.
