Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has claimed that Sarfraz Ahmed has proved many people wrong including him, after the top-order batsman played a solid role in the team's crucial World Cup tie against South Africa on Saturday, which Misbah-ul Haq's men won by 29 runs.
Ahmed, who was playing as a wicketkeeper batsmen for the first time in the tournament, opened the batting for Pakistan against South Africa and knocked a respectable 49 runs individually before he went on to take six crucial catches behind the wicket to help Misbah's men claim victory in the match.
Mahmood claimed that Ahmed has proved a lot of people wrong who said that he could not bat at the top of the order, including him, Pak Passion reported.
Mahmood claimed that Ahmed showed positive intent from the start and that was something they had not seen previously in the World Cup.
Mahmood also claimed that Ahmad's wicket-keeping was also excellent and added that having an accomplished and regular wicket-keeper gives the bowlers more confidence.
Mahmood has played 143 ODIs, having scored over 1500 runs and claimed 123 wickets, the report added.
