back2basics, a Bangalore based organic farming startup, has introduced a unique experience in the field of organic farming, called an "Experiential Farm visit".
This farm visit is the first of its kind in India, which allows an individual or a group of people to visit the farm, experience, pluck, eat and enjoy organic produce with absolutely no commercials involved.
The experiential farm, a mere 20-minute drive from ITPL, Whitefield, houses varieties of both exotic and local produce. Now, consumers can visit their experiential farm and see high-quality organic production, right from seed to harvest.
The farm is spread across 3.5 acres, where consumers can learn about their chemical-free production techniques and pick the products on their own. Free farm visits are facilitated once a month for a group of 30 people registered online.
back2basics was founded by S Madhusudhan, who is a veteran in the marketing and advertising industry. After working in leadership roles in many multi-national corporations across the globe, Madhu stopped to re-evaluate his own fast-paced lifestyle and food habits after a health scare.
Madhu does not have any agricultural background - he last studied Botany in Class 10 - and started from humble beginnings by growing produce on a 30 ft x 40 ft plot. He spent a lot of time understanding both the challenges faced by the Indian farmer and those faced by the discerning Indian consumer with an appetite for fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables.
By applying several management techniques to improve current agricultural practices, back2basics is a unique blend of ancient wisdom and modern science. back2basics currently produces 90+ varieties of fruits, vegetables, greens and cold-pressed oils in the farms spread across close to two hundred acres around Bangalore.
"The reason we decided to launch an experiential farm is because 99.9 percent of consumers don't know the source of the organic Fruits and Vegetables that they buy and consume. People buy their footwear from air-conditioned showrooms but don't hesitate to buy their Fruits and Vegetables from the footpaths," said Founder and Chief Farmer back2basics, Madhusudhan.
"Our goal is to make buying organic vegetables a norm in our segment of households. More importantly, we want to make "going organic" a way of life. Our experiential farm was introduced to add a layer of credibility and honesty to all what we do today at back2basics. Promoting a healthy lifestyle by educating the consumer and their families, through experience, on the benefits of organic farm fresh produce, is the sole objective of our experiential farm visits," said Idea Cultivator back2basics, Bhairavi Madhusudhan.
