A Bangladeshi teenage cricketer was allegedly beaten to death by a stump-wielding batsman after he taunted the umpire over a no-ball delivery in Dhaka on Thursday.
The incident took place during a local match when 16-year-old Babul Shikdar was wicket-keeping and a batsman was declared out, local police Chief Bhuiyan Mahboob Hasan informed.
Shikdar had taunted the umpire, thinking that the latter might favour the batsman by declaring the bowler's delivery a no-ball after making a similar ruling in the previous ball.
Shikdar's behaviour infuriated the batsman who then picked up a stump and smacked it on the back of his head.
Soon after the hit, the teenager collapsed on the field and died on the way to a clinic, Sport24 reported.
Police are now searching for the accused who escaped after the incident.
