BCCI backs 'successful' Dhoni despite ODI series defeat

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday expressed his support towards Indian ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, describing him as one of the most successful captains of the country, following his side's third consecutive defeat against Australia.

Thakur, however, admitted that there were some drawbacks in India's bowling, insisting that the selectors and the team management would take a call on the issue.

"Dhoni is amongst the most successful captain of India. India won 2008 and 2011 World Cup under his leadership. Team India climbed up to the number one spot under him. It is quite sad for the country to lose all the three matches. There were some drawbacks in bowling. So, despite getting a good total, team India failed to win a single match. It is a concern.The selectors and the team management will hold a discussion on it and take the decision accordingly, so that India can come up with a better performance in Asia Cup and World Cup," Thakur told the media here.

The 41-year-old further said that it was unfair to question Dhoni's leadership especially after the contribution he has had made to the team in the last eight years.

Thakur further said that the BCCI was mulling to appoint a full-time coach for the team.

"The domestic season and the International season are going on simultaneously. Cricket Advisory Committee will soon discuss about the performance of the country. There has been demand for a full-time coach since long . We had already announced that Ravi Shastri will be the Team Director till the World T20. We do not want to do anything between the season, but we also need to decide on the future," he added.

Earlier, India lost the five-match ODI series 0-3 to Australia following their three-wicket defeat in the third match in Melbourne.

The two sides will now play their fourth match, a dead rubber, in Canberra on Wednesday.
