Condemning the Gurdaspur terror attacks on Monday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur has said the stalled bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan cannot be revived under such circumstances.
"I condemn today's terrorist attack on India. I think you cannot expect a cricket series along with terrorist attacks. For me, the safety and security of every Indian is more important rather than a game of cricket," said the BJP MP.
Thakur asserted that there were many issues that need to be resolved before the resumption of the highly anticipated series between India and Pakistan.
"As an Indian, I won't like to see my country as a soft target. There are many issues that need to be resolved between India and Pakistan, with the board and with the government," he added.
Earlier in the day, heavily armed men stormed a police station in Gurdaspur in Punjab near the Pakistan border, killing nine and wounding several others. Three militants were also killed in the attack.
Pakistan was scheduled to host India in December 2015 in a bilateral series comprising three Tests, five ODIs and two T20s at a neutral venue as part of the six series MoU.
