Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is now said to be stable and on life support a day after she suffered a heart attack.
"Begum Kulsoom's vitals are stable but she is still on life support and sedated," Hasan, her son, was quoted by Geo News, as saying.
Her condition deteriorated after she had a cardiac arrest in the ICU and she has been unconscious since.
Begum Kulsoom's daughter, Maryam Sharif took to Twitter and wrote, "Ami [mother] had a sudden cardiac arrest this morning when we were on the flight and is in ICU and on the ventilator since. Earnest request for duas."
Nawaz Sharif's brother Shehbaz Sharif tweeted, "My Bhabhi [sister-in-law] Begum Kalsoom Nawaz is being kept in ICU due to her serious condition. The whole family is praying for her recovery. As the Holy Month of Ramadan comes to an end, I ask my compatriots to join me in prayers for her speedy recovery. The power of prayer is paramount."
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz underwent multiple surgeries last year after she was diagnosed with throat cancer. Her condition began to deteriorate in April this year, after which she was moved to London for treatment.
