Bharatiya Kisan Union upset over allocation of former PM Charan Singh's residence

The Bharatiya Kisan Union staged a protest here on Sunday against the allocation of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh's residence on Tughlaq Road and demanded that a museum should be built there in his honour.

The former prime minister's son and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh presently lives in this house.

"This is Chaudhary Charan Singh's house where Ajit Singh is staying. This should be a museum to the former prime minister instead it is being allotted to somebody else. We don't understand why it should be allotted to anybody. Indira Gandhi's house (on Safdarjang Road) has not been allotted, neither has Mahatma Gandhi's house (on Tees January Road). If you want to allot this house then their houses should also be allotted," Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait told ANI here.

"The electricity and water that has been cut off comes from the places where we farmers' work," added Tikait.

Bharatiya Kisan Union general secretary Yudhveer Singh echoing similar sentiments said the farmers will not tolerate if someone else takes over this house.

"If the government feels so, it is their error. It was declared a monument in 1987 and should be treated like one," he added.

Recently, a controversy erupted after the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) cut off the electricity and water supply to the house after repeatedly sending Ajit Singh reminders to vacate the government-allotted residence.
