The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the arrest of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP and its MLA's in connection with the Odisha chit-fund scam proves that there were many big fishes who had drained the common man with its hard earned money amounting to lakhs and crores of rupees.
"We have seen BJD MP was arrested yesterday in the chit-fund scam of Odisha. Former MLAs have also been arrested, this issue had been taken up by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Odisha since long and the karyakartas (workers) were agitating on the streets about this issue," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI here.
"Today, their stand has been validated, when the legal course has spoken in the same voice that we had been asking for. It points to the fact that many big fishes are involved in the ponzi scam which drained the common man, the common person on the street of lakhs and crores of rupees," he added.
On Tuesday the CBI arrested the BJD MP from Mayurbhanj, Ramchandra Hansda, and two former MLAs Subarna Nayak and Hitesh Bagarti for their alleged links with multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha.
The trio was arrested by the special investigating team of the CBI on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and diversion of funds.
The three leaders were former directors of Naba Diganta Capital Services Limited, a ponzi group. The CBI has been probing the activities of 44 ponzi companies in the state which allegedly duped thousands of investors' deposits.
The agency had earlier in July recovered 28 lakh rupees during a raid on Hansda's house in Mayurbhanj district.
