Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that the state government is taking several measures to tackle the flood situation, and added that the Bihar Police is working towards this and performing their duties in an efficient manner.

"We are making preparations in case the flood hits the city of Patna. We have made several provisions in this regard like electricity, diesel subsidy even availability of alternate crops. But a lot of it also depends on the extent of rainfall in the coming days. We will also take steps to save the crops in many regions," he told media here today.

"Bihar Police definitely is working and it is performing its duties. They don't do it to get credit or appreciation. The Bihar police has worked in a very professional way, unlike what the opposition might say," he added.

According to reports, floods hit over a dozen Bihar districts on Sunday with major swollen rivers, including the Ganga, affecting more than five million people.

In Patna, the Ganga was flowing above the danger mark but District Magistrate N. Saravana Kumar said the city was safe from flood.

Reports also state that the flood situation in Bhagalpur, Buxar, Begusarai and Munger, Khagaria districts has worsened with the swirling Ganga causing havoc in over 1,000 villages.
