Agreeing with Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar statement on liquor ban in Bihar, JD(U) on Sunday said if there is failure to enforce the law on people, then the people responsible for it will not be spared.

"The government's work is to make law, the Parliament and the Legislative Assembly makes law. The Legislative Assembly made this law on the basis of majority and it is the executive's duty to implement it. If the law will not be implemented then such people will not be spared. It is executive's liability to implement the law strictly," said senior JD (U) member and former minister Shyam Rajak.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday warned police officials that action would be initiated against them for failing to enforce the liquor ban in the state.

He said he has committed to enforce the liquor ban and there is no compromise on it.

Nitish's remarks came in response to the Bihar Police Association (BPA) that had protested against suspension of 11 SHOs last week and issued an ultimatum to the Bihar Police headquarters to withdraw the suspension of the SHOs and threatened to launch an agitation.

The 11 SHOs were suspended after it was found that they failed to check and control manufacture of banned liquor in their jurisdiction.

The Excise Law, passed by the state assembly earlier this month, includes provisions like punishing the entire family of an adult found drinking and severe penalties for policemen found lax in enforcing prohibition.
