Bird lovers in Surat have come together and set up a control room with modern technology to save and rescue injured birds, as accidents increase during the kite flying season.
To rescue such birds, the team has not only set-up a committee, but has also started a helpline.
"The effort team has made a control room, where with the help of modern technology we see to it that help reaches callers informing us of injured birds. We have also made an online rescue management system to coordinate the team of 300 volunteers and to coordinate ambulances," said a member of the Birds Rescue Committee, Darshan Desai.
During the kite festival, people try to bring down each other's kites using string, coated with a sticky paste of crushed glass or metal. These strings which are often not visible to the birds cause injury and sometimes instant death.
Over 130 kite-flying enthusiasts from 27 countries and various states of India are participating in the festival, which will be held in New Delhi, Mumbai and various parts of Gujarat.
