Special prayers were being held across India on Thursday for the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, a day prior to the results of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Four major exit polls have forecasted BJP and its allies to sweep to a parliamentary majority in the election.
In Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh, BJP supporters conducting special prayers said they will continue till Modi takes over as the Prime Minister if BJP is elected to power.
"Narendra Modi is our Prime Minister as per the exit polls. Lord Shiva has also said that Modi will win 260 to 293 seats in the parliament, it is going to be accomplished and until Modiji becomes the Prime Minister, we will continue to conduct these prayers so that he doesn't face any problems," said the priest and a BJP supporter, Bajendra Mishra.
Supporters sat around the religious fire along with an idol of Modi, giving offerings to the fire and chanting hymns.
Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has benefited from a wave of public anger over corruption scandals and a slowing economy under the Congress, which may be facing one of its weakest-ever showings at the polls.
Meanwhile, the scenario was no different in Patna and in national capital New Delhi with people holding banners and photos of Modi participating in the prayers.
"Less than 24 hours remain for the election results to be announced and we, the workers of BJP, from Patna completely believe that BJP will win at least 300 seats in the parliament. We are praying for prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to form the government," said a BJP supporter in Patna, Subhash Chandra.
