Blatter urged to quit as FIFA president next year

With the damage inflicted on football's governing body due to corruption allegations, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has reportedly been urged to quit from his post next year.

Boss of the Dutch Football Association, Michael van Praag, reportedly told Blatter that he should not seek re-election in 2015.

According to the BBC, Van Praag said that few people still take FIFA seriously and, however one looks at it, Blatter is mainly responsible.

Greg Dyke, chairman of the English FA, said that Blatter's response to corruption claims over Qatar 2022 was worrying after a British newspaper alleged that disgraced Qatari football official Mohamed Bin Hammam had made illegal payments to football officials in return for their support of Qatar's successful World Cup bid.

Dyke said that the allegations need to be properly investigated and properly answered, adding that many of them are deeply troubled by Blatter's reaction to these allegations.

Van Praag said that Blatter is not making things easy for himself and he does not feel that the current FIFA president is the man for the job any longer.

Moreover, Van Praag added that FIFA's image has deteriorated because of everything that has happened in recent years and people link the governing body to corruption and bribery and all kinds of old boy's networks.
