Bookies were left licking their wounds after the royal baby was named as George Alexander Louis.

George had been one of the hot favourites with odds of 2/1 as a first name from the moment the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth.

A Ladbrokes spokesman confessed that the punters had been right all along and that they had been taken to the cleaners, the Mirror reported.

The bookies have now offered evens on the name George moving up the ladder from number 35 in the UK's most popular baby names chart to become the number 1 choice.
