Boxing India on Monday threw its weight behind pugilist Laishram Sarita Devi, who is battling a provisional suspension from the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

Speaking to media here, Boxing India President Sandeep Jajodia today said that AIBA should consider Sarita Devi's unconditional apology and her impeccable past disciplinary record and revoke the decision.

"Sarita Devi's suspension is obviously a very unfortunate thing because she is a very promising boxer and she has been doing very well," Jajodia told media here.

"We have decided that we will appeal as Boxing India on her behalf, besides her own apology, we will appeal from Boxing India's side to AIBA and we hope that we will be able to convince AIBA that this was a very spontaneous emotional outburst by the lady and she is apologetic about it," he said.

Terming this as a one-off incident Jajodia added , "It is a one off incident; she is not a habitual undisciplined sportsperson. So, this should be considered and her suspension should be revoked."

The AIBA suspended Sarita Devi and her coaches indefinitely because of her protest at the 2014 Asian Games. An emotional Sarita Devi had refused to accept the bronze medal at the podium during the award ceremony in protest at a controversial verdict handed out against her.
