The Brazilian government has reportedly sought clarifications from the US who was revealed to have snooped on the president Dilma Rousseff.
The recently revealed classified documents by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden alleged that the US intercepted Rousseff's emails and telephone calls along with those of Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto who was being monitored even before he was elected as president in July, 2012.
Head of Brazil's foreign relations committee, Sen. Ricardo Ferraco said that the US programmes appear to have no limits because if the president is monitored it is hard to imagine what else might be happening.
Ferraco further said that it is unacceptable that in Brazil, where there is absolutely no climate of terrorism, that there is this type of spying, Politico reports.
The revealed documents do not indicate specifically which messages of Rousseff's were intercepted like the way it does for Nieto.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the US Embassy in Brazil's capital, Dean Chaves, said that the country values its relationship with Brazil and understands that they have valid concerns about these disclosures adding that they will continue to engage with the Brazilian government in an effort to address those concerns.
