Stuart Broad's heroics on the crease ensured that England matched New Zealand's first innings total of 350 on the third day of the second test match at Headingley.
After an overnight score of 253 runs for the loss of five wickets, England looked to be in danger of a major collapse as the hosts lost three quick wickets, the scorecard reading 267/8. However, Broad forged partnerships first with Mark Wood and then with James Anderson to ensure that England staggered to 350 all out.
New Zealand started its second innings the way it started its first - losing two quick wickets, with Broad sending Tom Latham and Kane Williamson back to the pavilion with only 23 runs on the board. However, Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor steadied the innings, and though both were eventually dismissed, the visitors were at a healthy 222/4 at the end of 50 overs, with Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling on the crease.
England currently leads the test series 1-0.
