The Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers are scheduled to meet on Wednesday for a company commander-level flag meeting in Pargwal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector.

The Director General of BSF, D K Pathak, said the request for the flag meeting came from the Pakistani side.

"The request for the flag meeting has come from Pakistan. We have tried to contact them many times in the past but they failed to respond. During the meeting, we are going to ask them why such heavy firing is going on for the last few days," Pathak told ANI here.

"It is difficult for me to say what their motive is behind these violations. Infiltration could be one of the reasons but in my opinion that alone is not the only reason," he added while commenting on the repeated ceasefire violations.

When asked to comment on the villages that have been under the Pakistani firing, he said, "I cannot give the exact number but around 5,000 families have been moved to safe locations by the civil administration."

The Pakistani troops had earlier fired on 40 border outposts (BoPs) and 24 villages along the international border in Jammu and Samba districts, leaving three people injured.

According to reports, there have been more than 30 ceasefire violations since July 16.
