Describing the civilian casualties due to ceasefire violations from Pakistan as 'unfortunate', Border Security Force (BSF) Director General D K Pathak on Monday asserted that his force has retaliated strongly.
"The incident which happened was very unfortunate that resulted in so many civilian casualties. We have strongly retaliated, there has been damage on their (Pakistan) side too, let's see what happens," Pathak told the media here.
Stating that such firing from across the border was unexpected, the BSF DG also stated that his force will act professionally and do what was required.
"Any specific instructions have not been given. The response which would be needed will be done. It is a professional force and they would do what will be required. We were not expecting that on Eid, this is completely unexpected," he added.
In one of the worst ceasefire violations, five villagers were killed and 29 injured in heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistani troops targeting hamlets and outposts along the International Border in Jammu district today.
Unprovoked firing has also been reported from Poonch this morning.
