A large number of Bangladesh bound banned contraband bottles were seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) near Agartala during a joint operation along with customs department.

Acting on information by source of N. P. Singh, DC (G) BSF Gokulnagar, the joint operation was planned by BSF troops of 195 Battalion of BOP Nischintpur and G Officials of BSF Sector Gokulnagar along with DPF Custom Agartala.

A truck bearing No. NL 02 Q 0411 near Amatali on Amtali-Khayerpur by-pass road was stopped by the BSF troops yesterday for search operation.

During search by joint team around 29,700 quantity of Phensedyle and Eskul Cough Syrup having market value of about Rs. 28 lakh was seized along with onion which was brought in truck to conceal contraband drug consignment.

The owner and driver of the truck Haradhan Pawanbashi Datta (47 years) resident of Nagpur, Maharashtra was apprehended along with three mobile phones and 04 SIMs.

Later it was learned that above consignment was loaded from somewhere at Indore, Madhya Pradesh a week ago and was supposed to be delivered at Maharajganj Bazar at Agartala.

Few days back, a godown was raided jointly by BSF and police in Indranagar area Agartala, on information of secret source of BSF, from where large quantity of Phensedyle was seized and owner of godown Apu Chakraborty involved in illegal Phensedyle business was also arrested.

Phensedyle and other cough syrup having codeine phosphate are smuggled to Bangladesh through unfenced border areas of Tripura.
