McLaren has admitted that they are starting to write off their miserable 2013 season and making sure that they make big improvements next year, saying that their drivers will have to wait until 2014 to achieve success.
According to the Daily Star, McLaren's British driver Jenson Button has just 39 points and is ninth in the standings ahead of Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix and has not finished higher than fifth.
Even as the team grapples with tyre problems along with other issues, McLaren's managing director Jonathan Neale has admitted they are now just trying to focus on the 2014 season, adding that it will be a real challenge to get a win this season.
Neale further said that although both Button and his Mexican teammate Sergio Perez are capable of scoring points, they have not achieved what McLaren wanted to do with the car, adding that the areas they are working on now are relevant to their 2014 campaign.
Stating that both their drivers would not have much chance to feature at the front of the grid in Belgium this weekend, Neale also said that even though drivers are always excited to race at Spa, it will be very difficult and may be wet according to the weather forecasts.
Neale also said that most teams will be switching a greater proportion of their resource and much of the design organisation, across to next year's car, for which there will be an increasing focus on 2014.
