Canberra golfer Jim Jackson beat 67-million-to-one odds to fire two hole-in-ones in the same round at the Capital Golf Club on Monday.
The 67-year-old ACT Veteran Golfers Association member started the day complaining of back pain, but a short time afterwards it turned to joy when he left the putter in the bag at the seventh and 14th par-three holes
According to nationalholeinoneregistry.com, the chances of golf's holy grail happening is twice in one round are 67 million to one, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Starting on the back nine, Jackson, who only took up golf 15 years ago, aced the 80-metre 14th, that requires a shot over water using a gap wedge, and backed it up on the 130-metre seventh with a seven iron, the ball bouncing twice before hopping into the hole.
Jackson said that in hindsight, it's a massive achievement, but admitted that he also realised it's a bit lucky as well. He said that normally one wouldn't have an 80-metre shot for a par-three.
Jackson claimed that a couple of the guys in his group said that that's really only half a hole-in-one. He added that the reaction for the first one was a lot noisier than the second, admitting that they were all in shock on the second one.
The golfer said that there was some high fives and they were a bit noisy, people were looking at them and knew something had happened. He said that when he walked into the clubhouse word had got out and people said 'congrats on the hole in one', while he said 'no, I got two!'.
The 11-handicapper plays twice a week and took up the game after his body could no longer keep up in squash and soccer.
Remarkably, Jackson also scored a hole-in-one at his member club, Gungahlin Lakes, on the 170-metre fifth hole, in January. He won 750 dollars for the feat, but would have to be content with a plaque for his rare double at Capital, the report added.
