CBI spokesperson 'emphatically denies' search of Delhi CM's office

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson on Tuesday flatly denied reports about a search being conducted at the office of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

"Such reports are completely baseless," said spokesperson Devpreet Singh.

"The CBI emphatically denies having searched the office of the Delhi Chief Minister, she said, adding that "false propaganda should not used to impede the CBI's investigations".

Elucidating further, she said the CBI had registered a case against a senior civil servant of the Government of NCT Delhi and six others on allegations that during the period 2007-14, he along with others abused his official position in awarding contracts from the Delhi Government to a private firm.

"After obtaining a warrant from the competent court, searches are in progress at 14 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh today (on Tuesday)," she added.

Earlier, CBI sources claimed that the investigating body has seized foreign currency worth over Rs 3 lakh from Delhi Chief Minister's Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar's residence.

She said the investigating body was committed to take action against the corrupt as per law

Chief Minister Kejriwal, earlier in the day, blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the "raid" and termed him "coward" and a "psychopath".

"When Modi couldn't handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice," said Kejriwal.
