'Defeated' opposition least concerned about development: PM Modi

Expressing his disappointment over the repeated disruptions in Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the opposition of practicing the politics of disruption and destruction.

Prime Minister Modi, who unveiled a statute of former Kerala chief minister R. Sankar here, said that some people are least interested in development of the nation.

"Some have decided that we may have been defeated but we will not let the Parliament run. It doesn't matter what happens to the nation. Those who keep quoting some of the President's speeches did not have anything to say about a recent speech of the President in Kolkata," he said.

"There are some, who are following only 1 D and that D is disrupt. Their D is destruct, demolish. Our path is the 3 Ds shown by the President and the 4th D for us is development," he added.

Prime Minister Modi lauded the former chief minister's dedication towards his work, saying there are few leaders who are alive in the hearts of the people years after their demise.

"Shri R. Sankar must have done such great things. He is remembered by people of Kerala," he said.

Prime Minister Modi also praised the ideologies of the former chief minister's mentor Sree Narayana Guru.

"Here was a person who always walked on the path shown by Sree Narayana Guru. Some people become 'practical politicians' and make compromises but not Shri R Sankar. He never left the path of Sree Narayana Guru," he said.

Prime Minister Modi recalled an interaction between R. Sankar and Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

"There was a Jan Sangh convention in Kanpur and Shri R Sankar was invited there as a special guest though he was not part of the Jan Sangh. The path shown by Sree Narayana Guru is the ideal path to end the suffering of the poor and educate the poor," he said.

The Prime Minister further assured the people of Kerala that his government would do everything to develop the state.

R. Sankar was the chief minister of Kerala from 1962 to 1964. He headed the Kerala PCC and the SNDP, an organisation of the backward Ezhava community in the state.
