The Center on Wednesday criticized former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for issuing insensitive political statement on martyrs.

Union Minister of State M. N. Pandey described Akhilesh's statement as 'saddening' and urged him to apologize.

Yadav had provoked criticism for asking why soldiers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and South India were getting martyred not Gujarat. The statement was an apparent dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
