The women's wing of the Congress Party staged a protest here on Monday against the Uber cab rape case. Congress national spokesperson Shobha Oza lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government, accusing it of doing nothing to stop rape, and instead to keep silent.

Oza said, "The government vows to keep silent. When Arun Jaitley was asked about the incident, he did not reply anything, and it clearly depicts sheer insensitiveness on the part of the BJP government."

One-stop crisis centres, a measure under the Nirbhaya fund that were planned to be opened by December have been scrapped, Oza said. On the Nirbhaya fund which is worth Rs 200 crore, the Congress leader said, "The government has eaten up the money".

Oza also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi only speaks about zero tolerance from the Red Fort and inside Parliament.

Commenting on the rise in crimes against women in the national capital, Oza said, "In Delhi, four rape cases are registered everyday, and many go unregistered."

Meenakshi Lekhi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the incident is totally condemnable. About the 27-year-old rape survivor, Lekhi said the woman was clever on her part to click a photo of the car number and report it to the Police. As a result, the investigation was carried out without delay, and the accused was nabbed.
