Centre panic stricken about voting on demonetisation: Congress

The Congress on Saturday blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-NDA government for the uproar and logjam in parliament, and said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is nervous that their own workers will vote against them.

"If there is an uproar or a logjam in parliament, it is entirely of the government's creation. It's their duty to make it work. It is very clear that they are very panic stricken that their own allies, their own BJP MPs, will vote against them," said Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Singhvi said the Prime Minister should come and speak over the demonetisation issue in parliament meaningfully rather then making speeches outside of it.

"No logic in saying that the opposition is obstructing parliament, the demands are legitimate," he said.

Parliament was adjourned till Monday after the opposition described the government as anti-farmer and anti-poor.

The opposition raised slogans such as "Kisan Virodhi, Gareeb Virodhi, Yeh Sarkar Nahi Chalegi" (We will not accept this government which is anti-farmer and anti-poor)

Communist Party of India (Marxist), General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said the demonetisation are ruining the lives of farmers.

President Pranab Mukherjee had on Thursday said, "For God's sake, do your job. You are meant to transact business in Parliament," he said.
