The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday reportedly asked the Bihar Government to take necessary steps to control Maoists activities in the state.

In a letter to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that several reports had been received that indicated that Maoist insurgency is again on the rise in the state, and this was causing considerable alarm in New Delhi.

Shinde advised Kumar to examine the successful counter-insurgency models of other states and adopt such structures in Bihar too.

Shinde said CPI(Maoist) have looted 38 sophisticated weapons and ammunition from the Bihar Police this year and that was the largest number in the country.

He told Kumar that the Maoists have realised that Bihar is a soft target to build their arsenal and may resort to further spectacular strikes.
