Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and spokesman Nalin Kohli on Thursday alleged that the chargesheet filed by the Uttar Pradesh police against party chief Amit Shah is politically motivated.
"From the beginning we have been saying that it is politically motivated. Firstly, no copy of the chargesheet was sent to us, and secondly, at that time Election Commission had sent notices to several others including Mulayam Singh Yadav, Beni Prasad Verma and Rahul Gandhi," said Kohli.
He alleged that it was done by the Samajwadi Party Government to disrepute the BJP ahead of the upcoming by-polls.
"Selectively UP chose only BJP president to make a chargesheet like this and announce it through the media. Both timing and reasons for such an action is suspicious," he said.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had earlier on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against Shah based on a video in which he allegedly made a hate speech during the run up to the 2014 Lok Shabha elections.
