Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh paid floral tributes to the veteran leader of Congress party Vidya Charan Shukla, here today.
Raman Singh said that V.C. Shukla was a brave soldier who fought with great courage and fortitude even after getting wounded during the Maoist attack in Sukma range of Bastar region on May 25. He fought a long battle in the hospital for many days and this clearly exhibits the grit and determination and fighting spirit he represented, said Raman Singh.
He was airlifted to a premier hospital for specialized treatment at Gurgaon where he succumbed to the injuries yesterday.
In one of the deadliest attacks in recent years the ultras felled trees at Sukma to block the 20-car convoy and then detonated a landmine and fired at the vehicles , killing 19 persons.
Shukla, 84, had sustained injuries in his right lung and liver, while one bullet was lying very close to his heart but failed to pierce through the vital organ, other than shrapnel wounds.
