Chinese film 'Hello Mr. Billionaire' had a grand opening over the weekend, The film raked in a whopping 131 million USD in its home territory.
According to Variety, it was ahead of 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout'.
Since, the Tom Cruise starrer earned 92 million USD in international markets including China.
Notably, 'Hello Mr. Billionaire' is being considered the biggest film outside North America.
The story of this film revolves around an underdog soccer player who attempts to reasonably spend 147 million USD in a month, as it is a condition for inheriting the 4.4 billion USD assets of his late Taiwanese uncle.
The film earned 47 million USD on Saturday, reported The Hollywood Reporter. While on Sunday it further earned USD 51.8 million.
Over the weekend the Chinese audience was spoilt for choices, as apart from 'Hello Mr. Billionaire', they had another local film 'Detective Dee' and Hollywood film 'Skyscraper' to choose from.
'Hello Mr. Billionaire' is directed by Yan Fei and written by Peng Damo, and is loosely based on a 1985 Hollywood film 'Brewster's Millions'.
