Chinese Foreign Minister calls on PM Modi, Sushma Swaraj

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and discussed issues of mutual interests.

Wang who is on a three- day visit to India arrived in New Delhi on Friday after paying visit to Goa yesterday.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted,

"A morning for neighbourly engagement. Chinese FM Wang Yi calls on PM @narendramodi."

Earlier, when asked whether he would like to make any statement on China seeking support from India on the South China Sea dispute, Yi said, "It is up to India to decide what position to take."

Wang also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed issues of mutual importance.

"Discussing issues of mutual importance. EAM @SushmaSwaraj meets with her counterpart Chinese FM Wang Yi in New Delhi," Swaraj tweeted.

Wang's visit to India is part of the regular high-level dialogue between the two countries.

Wang had yesterday said that that it will strengthen communication and coordination with New Delhi to make preparations for the Chinese leader's attendance at the forthcoming BRICS summit.

The BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in Goa in October.
