Australian Test captain Michael Clarke has reportedly been given a reprimand for showing 'dissent' while playing for New South Wales (NSW) in a domestic Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Sydney.
Clarke, who is expected to lead Australia in the first of five Ashes Test matches against England, was reported by the umpires on Thursday for challenging an umpire's decision while captaining NSW in the match.
According to Sport24, Cricket Australia (CA) said that the offence was the first in 18 months for Clarke, who admitted guilt and accepted the match referee's proposed penalty of a reprimand.
CA said that an undisclosed batsman was given the benefit of the doubt when a close-to-the-ground catch was claimed at gully, adding that Clarke used the 'T sign' or player decision review signal suggesting the decision should be reviewed by the third umpire when the umpire gave a 'not out' decision.
CA also mentioned that as Sheffield Shield matches are not televised, a third umpire is not used and if any player uses the 'T sign' even in jest, it will lead to an automatic report as it shows dissent at the umpire decision as a part of the code of behaviour revisions.
