Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader
Majeed Memon on Thursday refused to comment on the CBI's move to file charges against Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal and former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in a coal scam case, saying the law will take its own course in the matter.
"Well, the investigation has been going on in this direction under the orders of the Supreme Court and once the investigation winds up it culminate into the charging of file sheets before the appropriate court......It is a part of criminal procedure and, therefore, we cannot comment anything at this stage," Memon told ANI.
"The law will take its own course and the accused will have to be summoned in the court and then the case will be proceeded like any other case," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, the CBI filed a fresh chargesheet against Jindal, Koda, former minister of state for coal Dasari Narayana Rao, former coal secretary H.C. Gupta and 11 others before a special court for criminal conspiracy in the allotment of a coal block.
The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the allocation of Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block in Birbhum, Jharkhand, in 2008.
According to the investigating agency, Jindal group misrepresented facts and was shown favours by the Jharkhand Government which dropped other firms from its recommendation for allocation of coal blocks.
Earlier in March, a special CBI court had issued summons to former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, former coal secretary P.C. Parakh and Aditya Birla Group chairman K.M. Birla in connection with the coal blocks allocation scam.
