In an apparent attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra after Udhhav Thackrey's demand for declaring India a Hindu Rahstra, the Janata Dal (United) on Friday said there was a 'cold war' going on between both the parties on their ideologies.

"The 'cold war' that is going on between the BJP and the Shiv Sena on their ideologies is their internal matter. They both want to establish the supremacy of their ideological filth," JD(U) general secretary K.C Tyagi told ANI.

"We have already rejected these demands. The secular edifice of the constitution doesn't accept these questions," he added.

Commenting on the statement by the Shiv Sena chief, Tyagi said that it was a fight for supremacy between the 'original and the fake'.

"This is a battle to prove who is more 'Hinduwadi' and this has been initiated by the 'Sangh' and the Shiv Sena as well. We have nothing to do with that," he added.

The Congress Party had also demanded a ban on the Shiv Sena after Thackeray's demand, saying his comment was against the Constitution.

"India is a secular country and the Constitution is secular, and secularism can't be changed here. Udhhav Thackeray's comments are totally uncalled for as the comments are against the Constitution of the country. The election commission should take a cognizance of it, and should impose a ban on his party (Shiv Sena) immediately," Congress leader Rashid Alvi told ANI here.

Thackeray had said earlier that the country should be declared a Hindu Rashtra, demanding an imposition of uniform civil code in the country.
