World number three Rafael Nadal has revealed that his Australian Open preparations are on course following his recovery from appendix surgery.

The 14-times grand slam champion said that his operation on his appendix was successful and that he was able to practice for a lot of hours at a high intensity, adding that it was important for him after five months of enduring pain, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Nadal had an injury-plagued season throughout 2014 season and was struck down by appendicitis in October.

The 2009 Australian champion will be contesting in the two-lead up tournament in the Middle East before the start of Australian Open in order to better prepare himself ahead of the first Grand Slam of the next year.

According to him, the level of intensity and level of competition would be helpful for him and he would try to spend as much time on court as possible.
