The Congress Party on Thursday criticised the NDA Government for permitting Majed Hassan Ashoor, the Saudi Arabian diplomat allegedly accused of sexual assault on two Nepali maids, to depart 'silently', saying it has compromised on women security.
"This is a very unfortunate incident. The government may give various reasons for this, but this incident questions their claim that any law won't deter womens' safety and security in the country," Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI here.
"The allegations on the accused diplomat should have been investigated first; only then something should have been done," he added.
He further asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NSA Ajit Doval about the action they would have taken had this incident taken place under THE Congress rule.
"Why did they compromise national interests? What is the deal that they did with Saudi Arabia? Why is it that justice to these women has been compromised by the Indian Government?" he further asked.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) yesterday said that Saudi Embassy First Secretary, Ashoor had left India.
"The First Secretary, being a diplomat, is governed by the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," said MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup.
