Following the sacking on Congress legislator Amit Jogi, the grand old party on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh for his alleged involvement in an audio tape purportedly fixing the by-poll.
Congress leader R.S. Surjewala told ANI that the Chhattisgarh tapes proved that Amit Jogi was made to withdraw his candidature by offering him allurement of money at the instance of Dr. Raman Singh.
"Congress has taken action against one of its members. Modi ji used to say that he will have zero tolerance for corruption, will he now show the courage by taking resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh?" he added.
When asked to respond on the Congress' Chhattisgarh unit recommendation to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) that Ajit Jogi be suspended for six years over the controversy, Surjewala said that it was for disciplinary action committee to take a call.
"The matter will go to the disciplinary action committee headed by A. K Antony, who will take an appropriate call after examining all the evidences," he said.
"No member of the Congress working committee can be preceded against the Pradesh Congress Committee," he added.
Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit Jogi was expelled from the Congress today, after an audio tape allegedly showed he was involved in fixing an assembly by-election in the state.
Jogi, the legislator from Chhattisgarh's Marwahi Constituency, has been expelled from the Congress for six years.
