The Congress Party on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making tall claims and assertions which were not translating on ground.
However, it expressed its happiness over an Indian Prime Minister being put on the cover of Time Magazine.
The grand old party was reacting to an interview of Prime Minister Modi, published by the Time Magazine.
"I don't think as an opposition party, we are here to comment or criticise the Prime Minister on everything. It is good if the Prime Minister of India has given interviews. A lot of good words have been used and a lot of rhetoric has been used, but, our only a bit of regret in our approach is this that a lot of the tall claims made, very important assertions and achievements made by him do not seem to be at all existing on the ground," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI.
"Take communal harmony, take divisiveness and take economic growth, on all these points he has spoken very eloquently, but, there is a continuing heights between practice, achievement and rhetoric. Otherwise, we are always very happy that the Prime Minister of India appears on the cover of the Time Magazine," he added.
In his interview, Prime Minister Modi said that India's progress could be ensured only through an 'innate belief in democracy' and not through 'dictatorship' or by a 'powerful person who believes in concentrating power at one place'.
According to the Time Magazine, the Prime Minister said that India's performance in the last ten months had shown that his government was 'moving very rapidly' to fulfil the expectations people had from it.
"Internationally, whether it is the IMF, the World Bank, Moody's or other credit agencies, they are all saying in one voice, that India has a great economic future. It is progressing at a fast pace and has again become a factor of growth and stability in the international economic system. India is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world," he added.
