For the investigative agencies to come up with only the name of Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi's wife in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam is a case of "political vendetta", the Congress Party alleged on Tuesday.

"It's amazing that for the last five days, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), every other instrumentality of government have been creating a complete mirage of activity and ultimately they have been able to come out with one name only- the wife of the Congress Spokesperson. What could be a bigger case of political vendetta?" Manish Tewari said at a press conference here.

Tewari also demanded that the government disclose the names of people besides Anita Singhvi, who have been served a notice by the Income Tax department.

Earlier in the day, the Income Tax Department issued a notice to Anita Singhvi demanding explaination about certain purchases made from a Nirav modi-owned showroom.

Last week, Defence Minister N Sitharaman linked Singhvi, his wife and his son to Nirav Modi's business.

Notably, businessman Nirav Modi is at the centre of the Rs 11,400 crore scam.

Singhvi has however refuted the allegation and threatened Sitharaman with civil and criminal defamation for making "ignorant and patently false comments.
