England captain Alastair Cook has ordered his senior batsmen to stand up to Mitchell Johnson during the Adelaide Test.

According to the Mirror, the way England were duffed up in Brisbane shook the team to the core and asked serious questions about their ability to face quick bowling.

Cook said he admits he, along with the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and Matt Prior must take responsibility and deliver a huge first-innings total, the report added.

Harsh words were said behind closed doors and skipper Cook left his squad in no doubt about what is expected of them, the report said.

Only once this year have England scored more than 400 in their first innings, against New Zealand in Wellington, and Cook said he knows he will not win many games in Australia without plenty of runs on the board, the report further said.
