England skipper Alastair Cook has admitted that the selectors would have to take a tough decision over whom to select as a fellow opener for the first Test against Pakistan to be played in the UAE.

The 30-year-old said that he wants someone to jump out and remain in the opening slot for the long-term, the Guardian reports.

Cook also backed Adam Lyth, who became his sixth opening partner this summer, saying that he was a brilliant catcher and played a major part despite not being able to score too many runs in the Ashes.

Lyth's place in the team appears to be in danger after averaging just 12.77 in the 2015 Ashes Series.

Cook further indicated that selection meeting could be held in the next ten days.

Australia will lock horns with Pakistan in three Tests in October before they undertake a tour of South Africa.
