Court defers hearing on Salman Khan's re-trial on hit and run case till 28th April

A Mumbai sessions court on Tuesday adjourned hit and run case that took place in 2002 involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan till 28th of this month. The prosecution sought more time from the court because of which the court announced adjournment of this case.

This is the second occasion when the fresh trial has not begun. Last Wednesday the court had adjourned the case after the witnesses failed to appear before a Mumbai sessions court as they were either not traceable or unavailable. Earlier this year the case took a twist when the Magistrate after examining 17 witnesses, held that the charge of culpable homicide was made out against Salman and referred the matter to sessions court, as cases under offence were tried by a higher court.

On July 24, 2013, the session's court had framed charges against Salman for the more serious charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which entails a 10-year prison term.

Earlier, the 48-year-old actor was tried for the less stringent charge of rash and negligent driving, which attracts a two-year sentence.

Salman is facing the charge of running over his Toyota Land Cruiser on a group of persons sleeping on a footpath outside a bakery in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four others.
