An accountability court on Thursday rejected former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's request seeking a five-day exemption from on-going trial of Panama Papers to visit his ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, in London.
As reported by The Express Tribune, Sharif, along with his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, sought an exemption from the trial from June 1 to June 16 even as they submitted Kulsoom's medical report with their plea.
Further, Nawas' son-in law, Capt Safdar (retd), also requested for an exemption during the hearing of the corruption references filed against the Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under directions from the Supreme Court (SC).
The deadline for filing plea was June 9. Further, Judge Bashir who is overlooking the matter has sought another extension from the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Kulsoom is undergoing a cancer treatment at a hospital in London.
Earlier in March, the Supreme Court had granted a two-month extension for the proceedings.
