As the Delhi Court today convicted lone suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Shahzad Ahmad for murder and other offences in 2008 Batla House encounter case, the family members of the deceased police inspector M.C Sharma have welcomed the court's verdict adding that no one would ever call this a fake encounter case.

M.C Sharma's wife said that she was very relieved after the court's verdict as it is a proof that the encounter, in which her husband died, was genuine.

"This issue was made political by saying that it was fake. Those who tried to divert the attention in this case kept saying that it was a fake encounter. After the court's verdict, which has convicted Shahzad Ahmad, no one will say that it was a fake encounter," she said.

Expressing grief over the loss of her son, M.C Sharma's mother appealed that Shahzad Ahmad, who was convicted by the court today, should be given a harsh punishment.

Shahzad Ahmad was held guilty for murdering police inspector M C Sharma and assaulting other police officers.

Shahzad was an Indian Mujahideen operative, and one of four men responsible for serial blasts in Delhi in 2008.

Acting on a tip-off on some terrorists involved in the blasts, the police team led by Inspector Sharma went to Batla House on September 19. Sharma was killed during the incident.
