CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday called upon the central trade unions and party units to intensify protests against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government over the recent hike in fuel prices.
"We have called upon all our party units to intensify protest on the petrol and diesel hikes, on the growing agrarian distress, and also on the various other economic measures that are being contemplated," Yechury said at a media briefing here.
He added that the hike in fuel prices comes at a time when the rural parts of the country were already facing immense problems.
Petrol prices were raised by Rs 3.13 per litre while diesel prices by Rs 2.71 per litre from Friday night. This is the fourth increase in fuel prices this year. The rates were last hiked on May 1.
