CPI (M) MLA from Chavara constituency N Vijayan Pillai passed away at a hospital in Kochi on Sunday morning following a prolonged liver ailment.
Pillai, who is the son of veteran Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader Narayanan Pillai, started his political career as a Panchayat Member in 1979 and continued so for 20 years.
In 2000, he became a member of District Panchayat. He began his political journey with RSP but later joined Congress. Due to the difference with the Congress leaders on the party's liquor policy, he moved to CPM.
In 2016, Pillai made his way to Assembly by defeating RSP leader Shibu Baby John.
