Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has slammed his side after they incurred a humiliating 3-1 defeat against Monaco, describing their defence tactics as 'suicidal' on Wednesday following their Champions League last-16 first leg tie at Emirates Stadium.
Following the defeat, Arsenal could be on course to their fifth successive exit from the Champions League last-16 stage.
Reflecting on the team's dismal performance, Wenger said that it was an awful night, adding that they got both aspects wrong - the chances they didn't create and the defending was suicidal, the Daily Star reported.
Midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia put Monaco ahead in the 38th minute before Dimitar Berbatov doubled the lead just after the break.
Subsequently, substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rescued Arsenal from surrendering abjectly as he netted a stoppage-time goal before Yannick Ferreira Carrasco restored a two-goal advantage by adding a third goal.
Arsenal will meet Monaco again on March 18 for their Champions League second leg tie.
