An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Assam's Baksa District after the recovery of three more bodies.

It is suspected that militants killed the three persons before throwing them into the Beki River.

On Sunday, there were reports of police firing in the air to disperse a mob holding a protest against the kidnapping of people by militants in violation of indefinite curfew in Salbari sub-division.

Baksa Deputy Commissioner Vinod Seshan was quoted by media, as saying that that death toll is currently pegged at four.

Meanwhile, the families of the dead persons and villagers in Barpeta District have refused to conduct the last rites till Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visits the area to address their grievances.

Indefinite curfew has been clamped in the Salbari sub-division and Anand Bazar in Baksa since yesterday morning.

Police and CRPF jawans have been deployed in large numbers to maintain peace in the district. Army has been called in and kept as stand by.
